mourning begins before loss
Grief is there to greet us on the other side of loss, but when we know what is on the inevitable horizon,
sometimes it visits us early.
This series follows:
a husband and wife coping with the former’s cancer diagnosis,
two roommates dreading their approaching move-out date,
a partner in a long-distance relationship sensing its approaching end,
a woman accepting the worsening state of her chronic illness.
The images are printed on a standard inkjet printer, water is applied, then the pieces are suspended and backlit to be re-photographed while wet.
The subject matter and post-production methods both speak to the power and effects of anticipatory grief.
